Laguna Speckled Buff (WC403) is low in sand and grog content with a smooth texture. An excellent throwing body. The color palette is perhaps described as ‘desert’ or ‘Southwest’. Fired in oxidation, Speckled Buff falls into the tan/brown color range. This clay contains manganese.

KYMudworks Iceman w/ Grog Clay Sample Image
KYMudworks Iceman premium white stoneware that is a pleasure to throw and durable when fired. Super plastic but great for handbuilding as well as throwing.  Fires to a very light grey/off-white. Excellent color response and good glaze fit with the vast majority of commercial glaze brands. Occasional tiny iron specking can happen due to the nature of it being a stoneware clay.

KYMudworks Sheltowee is a super smooth, tight, and plastic body that fires a deep red at cone 5 and dark red brown at cone 6. Throws and hand builds well. Matures cone 5-7. Won’t warp or bloat at cone 7 if slow fired through the last 300-400F. Gorgeous in soda and wood firings too!

KYMudworks Brown Bear

KYMudworks Brown Bear Sample Image

KYMudworks Brown Bear is a super smooth, plastic body that fires a dark chocolate brown at cones 5-6. Won’t bloat at soft cone 7 if fired slow through the last 300-400F. Contains no grog. Gives nice warmth to glazes, giving that reduction look to them in oxidation. 

 

**The manufacturer recommends bisque firing SLOW speed between ^06 and ^04 and always SLOW speed glaze firing. If you are having trouble getting some brands of commercial glazes to not pinhole you can always try bisque firing to ^03. If you are using Mudworks glazes exclusively you only need to bisque to ^06 unless you prefer a higher bisque. *Our tests with clear glaze gave us little to no bubbles or green tint to the clear glaze.

KYMudworks Dark Star is perfect if you like speckles in your clay but are looking for a body that keeps your glazes brighter, check out this new clay body. Based off of our very popular Ice Man clay body, Dark Star is easy to throw and handbuild with and is very forgiving, smooth, and plastic.

** The manufacturer recommends slow firing speeds in both bisque and glaze when using any clay body that contains manganese specks due to off gassing. This allows the gasses time to escape properly from the ware. If fired past cone 6, you may experience bloating.

Laguna Max’s Paper Clay (WC953) fires gray-stony-white in reduction (cone 10), off white at oxidation (cone 5), and bright white at cone 05 (raku). Medium textured, low shrinkage body designed for large hand-built sculpture and tile work. Contains a moderate amount of fine/medium mesh grog.

Clay pricing & quantity discounts

Moist clay pricing varies depending on the clay body and the quantity ordered. Quantity discounts fall within the ranges below. For moist clays, discounts are applied based on the total weight of your order.

Raw materials also qualify for discount pricing, but discounts apply per material and cannot be combined.

We are clay distributors

 We are proud clay distributors of Laguna, Standard and Kentucky Mudworks Clays. We recommend you plan ahead for large orders and speciality orders. Planning ahead in the winter is highly recommended.
