Exploring The Teapot with Sarah Wells Rolland

The Teapot, every functional potters glorious pursuit is a wonderful challenge of integrated design, balance and function. In this class you explore all the elements of a teapot; multiple forms, pouring spouts. lids and multiple approaches to handles. This class is designed to meet you where you are, then help to push and refine your teapot making skills.

Each week we will have an inspiring slide presentation where we study design elements of wonderful teapots made by potters who have truly mastered  them. We will be challenged and loving it!

The class sessions include demonstrations, slide presentations, and assignments.

Over the six sessions we will cover:

  • Throwing with excellence
  • Different kinds of spouts
  • Inset lids and overhang lids. Lids that fit well and are integrated into the design of the pot.
  • Handles from many perspectives: behind the pot, overhead, and more. Sarah will discuss balance, the hold and negative space.
  • And lastly, how does it pour?

This class is designed for the potter that wants to push into new territory and expand their skill set and it will not disappoint. By the end of this six week session you will be more skilled and and on your way to making wonderful teapots.
