Description

The Pouring Vessel has been a focus in Sarah Wells Rolland’s body of work for many years. The pouring vessel is a great form to work many nuances of an integrated pot. In this workshop we will explore throwing tall using smaller increments of clay to make a tall form. In the process of making this piece will explore throwing finished (no trimming), altering the shape to create planes, darting and adding attachments. Even if you are only moving 2 lbs. of clay efficiently you can master these techniques quickly and begin using these same techniques to edit your forms as well.

This piece is an excellent subject for discussion about form, proportion, balance, negative space as well as additive and subtractive methods when making a unique form.  Clay has so many wonderful properties and the elements of this piece takes advantage of them.
