Description
Which came first, the surface design, or the form? That’s not the question we’ll be answering in this class, but in order to talk about different surface design techniques, we need to have a surface! We will take the first half of the class to look at various forms that originate from slabs of clay – both functional and decorative. The second half of the class will discuss various surface design techniques, including sgraffito, mishima, and direct carving into the clay for various effects with glazes. This class is scheduled for 90 minutes, but will go for up to two hours if there are more questions.
