Kids Camp: “Cherokee Legends” with Melanie Robertson (ages 11-13) June 22-26
Kids Camp: Cherokee Legends, An Interdisciplinary Approach. Students will study an overview of the Cherokee culture; folklore, language, and the ceramic arts, which will include learning the basics of the nature of clay, hand building and surface design. Projects for the week include clay whistles, drums, vegetable dying, and an assortment of Cherokee inspired vessels.
This type of camp experience is called “interdisciplinary” or “integrated” because it includes other disciplines besides ceramics and carries a language arts component. Students will also explore the importance of respecting and honoring our indigenous neighbors and understand that our community members include a wonderful variety of people.
Workshop Date: Monday, June 22 – Friday June 26 Afternoon session; 1- 4 pm (11, 12 and 13 years)

About Melanie: Melanie Robertson has been teaching Kids Camps at The Village Potters Clay Center since 2011. She is an inspiring and gifted teacher of both children and adults. She has a special gifting with children.
Undergraduate degree in Art Edu Appalachian State University
Taught in both public and private school classrooms, 20+ years.She home schooled one of her three children.
