Part 2 Throwing with Finesse w/ Sarah Wells Rolland

Sept 18-22 2023

Monday-Friday 9-3 pm (with extended studio access opening at 8:30 am and extended to 5 pm Monday – Thursday)

Fee 725.00

Whether you are a professional potter, aspiring to be, or a hobbyist this class is for you.

Having completed Part 1 you now a deeper understanding of the properties  moving clay with greater skill and less struggle. We have increased our volumes of clay too. So now you are ready to push the boundaries with your work, increasing creative risks while continuing to develop approaches to varying forms. Watch how creative you become. 

In this workshop we will continue to hone our skills and explore how a pot evolves and changes. Efficient throwing, using all the clay, balancing your pull with wheel speed, choking clay successfully, handles and attachments that are clean, balanced and accent the form are all emphasized during the week. Each student will push their current skill set beyond their current level.

What to expect:

  1. Throwing even larger volumes of clay
  2. Throwing large rims and foot rims
  3. Stacking clay with finesse
  4. Adding textured slabs to a wheel thrown pot
  5. Mastering handles 
  6. Holding clay to the top of your pot

We will continue our discussions with critiques, sharing and “what if’ discussions. 

You will receive an email approximately 3 weeks before the workshop with details, a map and what tools to bring.

This workshop is designed for potters who have taken Throwing with Finesse Part 1

Participants should be able to move 3-4 lbs of clay up into a cylinder. This workshop is not for the novice beginner.

Cancellation Policy:

    1. Cancellation up to 45 days prior to the start of class/workshop, students receive a full refund (minus a $75 administrative fee).
    2. Cancellation within less than 45 days of the start of class/workshop, students receive no refund.
