Beginning Handbuilding, Raw Clay Class with Tori Motyl, Mondays from 10am – 12:30pm
This beginner handbuilding class focusing on the expressive properties of raw clay. We will develop functional vessel forms and sculptural forms. We will explore modeling, carving, ripping, and cutting of a variety of clays and discuss how different properties of clay can be brought out in different ways. We will also explore using contrasting colors of clays and slips for dramatic surfaces. We will not be glazing our pieces and instead will be using alternative methods to finish our work to naturally bring out the beauty and texture of the raw fired clay.
