My new work has reignited a creative fire in me. I am mesmerized! We built the Kazegama kiln 2016 and 17 firings later I have found a path that speaks to my aesthetic and adventurous spirit.
These pots are created with a firing technique that surrenders the pot to a violent atmosphere in the kiln. At 2300 degrees wood ash is introduced into the kiln. It moves through the kiln chamber and randomly lights onto the pots creating beautiful variations of color and textures on the pot. Then following the wood ash soda ash is sprayed into the kiln which fumes and travels leaving beautiful greys and variations of other colors.
Every piece is unique! The loss rate is high but the risk is always worth the rewards.
Thank you all for celebrating with me and purchasing this work!
