ONLINE Live: Why You Want to Throw Off the Mound (…or is it Hump?) with Lori Theriault
October 6, 2020 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm
$40Description
Whether you call it ‘throwing off the mound’ or ‘throwing off the hump’, this technique can help you strengthen and refine many other throwing techniques. Lori will take you through the basics of throwing off the mound, and will discuss the benefits of it as a learning tool for both beginning potters and for those looking to refine a form or technique. When you throw off the mound, you learn more about centering and compression, and as you’re developing throwing techniques, throwing this way allows you to focus more on that technique and spend less time preparing separate pieces of clay. You can throw closed forms, teabowls/yunomis, soup bowls, and lids off the mound, and the technique is also handy for practicing different rim treatments or even practicing your trimming techniques. Lori will cover all of this, and will answer your questions along the way!
